Why it stays
quiet.
The owners found this plot by driving past a for-sale sign, and two things stopped them. There was an elephant sanctuary next door. And a line of trees along the bottom boundary formed a green wall they knew they would keep — a view over the canopy to the sea, and complete privacy beneath it.
Because of the sanctuary, more than seventy rai of surrounding land can never be developed. Below the property there is a wooded gully with a stream and a small seasonal waterfall.
At six every evening the cicadas start. When they stop, the quiet that follows is the thing guests remember.
Turn left for Fisherman’s Village — restaurants, evening markets, somewhere to take children. Turn right for the airport and Chaweng. A back road over the top reaches Maenam one way and Lamai the other. Close enough to everything. Far enough from everything.
